I'm looking to make a smps for a car amp

I have listened or readed somewhere, that there are folks making modifications

in computer supplies to have 24 volts.... sorry that i do not remember where and how..but give a search in the google and you may find.... PC supply, mods to 24V...then two may produce a simetrical supply if needed... 24 plus 24 if needed.

I also would like to learn some about SMPS..i am asking everybody to help me about that..there's a bunch of Brazilians with me, in this same forum, needing to learn about these supplies.

regards,

Carlos

Hello

Its much easier for you to modify a computer power supply, to get at least 250W RMS from that supply, I will try to locate that file for you, since you dont need more thatn 300W SMPS for that application.

And cheaper solution also!

The electronic magazine ELEKTOR built in the past a smps for car audio... www.elektor.de, and I will show in my archive...

... and starting DIY! The transformer ist tricky... 100µm 2 layer PCB, I hope so!

Mr : Paul

Please let me know if you are going to publish that great SMPS at forums here. I need to make one for car usage. Your SMPS looks very good

I am really impressed, really very nice

Thanks for sharing

Thats right! Or buffer, for peak loads. You would like listen to music? Audio signals are very complex? No problem if amplifier is directly connected to the batteries, here the SMPS stepped up the power, but not instantely. If you like realy dirty sounds then, well, 1000µF will be enough...
Don´t care, the charging and decharging is managed by the 3525, but I know 10000µF/63V are expensive! The cost for one prototype will be 500€!

I have a new design for the SMPS:
- Flyback topologie,
- ETD54,
- 8200µF IN; 2200µF OUT.

I spend all my time for the output filter (toroid Kool Mu core)... More to come next weekend...

I am more convinced into using the 10000uF capacitors now, But it will be costy to me the PCB double layers :(

What about transformer construction, do I need special materials?

You need to find other guys who like to built this SMPS to reduce the price of the PCB: -50% for 10 pieces. But also, good capacitors costs a lot of money, dont forget this! You need low ESR high temperature ones! Its a professional developement: two sided PCB with 100µm copper layers.

The transformers are standard: EPCOS, FERROXCUBE, N67 core, copper wire about lets say 50€...

The price of the SMPS is given by: the capacitors, the PCB, but sorry if you turn on this you reduce the performance and the quality!

I have a mercedes and i am happy with the sound of the audio in this car. I´m not interested into building a car amplifier, but it is a nice challenge. My choice would be a high quality tube amplifier then the car audio speakers are very good ones. Less power but more quality!

Thanks for the informations..

What about Gerbers?

... here the binary datas: you can modified what you want, you need EAGLE.
Don´t forget, you have to do ERC... and if you want some modifications, placement and so on...

Just got the qoute from PCB Manufacturer, its 70 US$ for single PCB.

Do you have that issue of magazine in ENGLISH?

I need to have more informations about making the transformer

Thank You..
