Drive signal issues with half bridge

Ok i will keep searching thanks. Ebay is my only option due to my location or at least someone that does not charge a lot on shipping. What's max external diameter would you suggest? Something like 20mm

YES!

1.5CM or 2CM outer Diameter is good. with AL/NH of 3000 or more, the more the best!

Thanks Micro i am trying to search for it on ebay and guess what :). I think i will order some of those IR2153D from ebay for another side project based on your designs i am going through these threads right now but i will also pursue the current one though. Its been an annoying project but i've learned a lot from it.

Never give up when you make SMPS, We are here to help each other.

IR2153D is good chip, you can build the commercial version if you wish using ETD49 vertical version. PCB was made with VERTICAL Version

I Advice you to buy some ETD49 from ebay if you can. 2 at least. N27 or N87 or 3C90 core material.

Good Luck!

To tell you the truth, if you are looking at ebay it will take you some time to get what you want.

I dont know if you can buy directly from (coil Craft, CWS)

www.coilcraft.com

www.cwsbytemark.com

That one here:- http://cgi.ebay.com/40PC-LOT-FERRITE-TOROID-CORE-SANLIN-SL5-T22X14X8-NOS-/400217375903?_trksid=p4340.m263&_trkparms=algo%3DSIC%26its%3DI%252BC%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BIEW%252BFICS%252BUFI%26otn%3D10%26pmod%3D390314855307%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D62065581157900495#ht_500wt_922

is Al/nH of 2000. I dont advice + Its big. you only need 1CM OD. or even less than 1CM.

If you can buy them from CWS. its easier for you while they use same shipping methods.

Hope that helps.

New GDT Arrived!!

Zeus

Today just received my new GDT. they are VERY small. and they are ROBUST!

Enjoy some pictures, and see waves BEFORE and AFTER connecting an IGBT.

Hope that helps you!

Hi Microsim thanks a lot for the reply and the pictures. The probl;em with CWS is that the only shipping option they are providing is $170 for a $2 core regarding my location. the hong kong suppliers on ebay are closer to me (direct flight from my location to there) and provide free or 10- $20 shipping fees which is not comparable. I will keep looking

The main transformer is an EI-33 set for 2000G max at 50KHz and max voltage of 382V with cross ectional area of 1.3 CM SQ. It has 73 turns primary and 23 turns secondary.

Are you crazy? your transformer is 73 turns primary?

c`Mon

whats that. its all wrong. all

Re-;aying down components

Hi yes Cobra exactly 73 thats what the equation gave me its the first post in made in think. Have you worked with any EI-33 core before? I've dissasembled an EI-33 core and found its primary to be 2X20 turns. I am re-laying the components down on the board in mean timeand this is what it looks like:100_0566.jpg. Ic is working fine and i have got these ETD cores handy 100_0567.jpg to build another transfo. Will try to get more info on them

I've recheck the pc psu components, from the pcb where i took the EI-33 from, its set to 27Khz so for 2X20 turns for an effective Ae of 1.3 cm square would mean the core was operating at 6800G.

I tried to operate the core at <2000G for 50KHz and and Ae of 1.3 SQ CM.

I will try 2800G stick with 50KHz and my Ae of 1.3 SQ cm which should give me 52 turns for an input voltage of 382V. What do you think?

Are you designing for a 270V line?
By my numbers: 52turns, 50khz, 382V rail, half bridge, gives me 1400G. You need to count with 191V as it is a half bridge so the trafo sees ony that voltage and not the full 382V.

Hi Kubeek thanks a lot for the reply. I was getting confused by these numbers as i saw the calculations in switch mode power supply cookbook using 382V but effectively the transformer is subject to only half the voltage which is more correct i've checked in Pressman effectively thats Vdc/2

So

1) Initially at 27KHz and 191V with an Ae of 1.3 SQ Cm and 40 turns primary, the core Bmax was: 3400G

2) My target is 50KHz, 191V Ae 1.3 SQ Cm and Bmax of 1400G is 52 turns as you said. Am already re-building the core for 1400G

3) Secondary turns I need 2X35V.
If i go for 35V , a max duty cycle of 95% (TL494 dual op config limits to 50%) , a VFwd drop of 1V and based on 52 turns and a Vin Min of 126V(252V/2) to the transfo i get: 17 turns to be wound bifilar

So final winding one the core will be 26 turns primary, then 17 turns bifilar sec, then 26 turns primary

Please give your comments Kubeek thanks

Now i've read some post here where i've seen microsim's excel sheet calc and i get the atatched results : 44 turns primary and 2X10 turns secondary am i right?

Which would then mean 22 pri , then 10 sec bifilar , then 22 pri right ? I will go for these numbers

Microsim's calculation.jpg

By the way Micro i just purchased IR2153 waiting for them to be shipped here to build your smps :)

If you have entered correct values in the formula, then you need that number at that LOW frequency.

IR2153D is cool for SMPS. You can build the commercial version

Thanks

thanks Micro am rebuilkding the core. Hopefully i should finish it tonight and be ready to test it tomorrow after work with waveforms posted here. am diving into the commercial smps ir2153 forum
